Birdsong is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for composers from all eras. Valentine and Gabriel Michaud explore the woody or glittering sounds of their instruments and immerse us in a lush jungle of finely chiselled melodies and dazzling harmonies. Famous or exotic birds, baroque or electronic, jazzy or contemporary, they all spread out their concert pianos in a hymn to freedom and musical diversity.

Conceived as a walk in the woods, ‘Oiseaux de Paradis’ is a dreamlike escapade that brings together a surreal aviary in an imaginary landscape. The listener is invited to plunge into a jungle of sound from which emerge, for fleeting moments, colourful creatures with bewitching songs.

The alto and soprano saxophones converse with the marimba and vibraphone and a whole bestiary of woodblocks, cuica, guiro and other unusual little percussion instruments. The works emerge from a framework of electronic sounds that runs through the opus from start to finish, conceived as a showcase and composed by Gabriel Michaud. A world figure in classical saxophone, Valentine Michaud is one of those who can nobly be described as a total artist: an aesthetic saxophonist, she also brilliantly crafts multidisciplinary performances. She has already won numerous international prizes and performed with some of the world’s leading orchestras.
