Teresa Suen Campbell, is an advocate of new music and has commissioned 5 harp concertos to date, one for performance in 2026 and one for 2027. Her second CD, My Voice, in collaboration with the amazing chamber orchestra Sinfonia Toronto under the superb guidance and direction of Maestro Nurhan Arman, released on the Navona Label, records three harp concertos, being a further development of her Doctoral thesis, which focused on celestial images, cherubim and seraphim, embodied by the harp in Western operas during the 19th century.
First, her husband James’ harp concerto, “the Atonement” which uses the musical language of the 19th and 21 centuries. Prof. Chan Ka Nin’s tribute to his mother, who suffered from dementia before departing this plain, constitutes the second concerto. Finally, Teresa revisits Handel’s harp concerto, but with a newly written cadenza, by Suen herself. 01 Harp Concerto in B-Flat Major, Op. 4 No. 6, HWV 294_ I. Andante allegro |
