Something that is a bit of a departure from my last few recordings. In the past I gravitated toward songs of the 30’s and 40’s, inspired by the musical treasure trove of The American Songbook. In seeking out repertoire for a new project, I became fascinated by that vibrant decade of diversity, change and of course music – the 60’s! After much inspiring and entertaining listening, I have simply chosen songs that hit me. Songs that I connect to in some way, melodies that would run around in my head on ‘repeat’. The idea here was to deconstruct these songs and rebuild them in my own style – perhaps in the form of a reharmonization, a bass line, or a different groove.” Emilie-Claire Barlow, Vocals Tracklist |
